It would need a new bolt and maybe a new shaft.

I could do a variation for 50 cal, but I would need the gun in hand to be able to design it. The poppet shaft would have to stop at the back of the power tube instead of the tip as there just isn't room for it all the way to the front with 50 cal.

I want to make sure I have this right. This will work in a Bob Vibe?

Yes and no. The ones that I have shown in this thread will only work in a classic Ion - not a Vibe or XE. I have, however, just completed some kits that will work with those that will be going up in a separate thread shortly.

Okay totally off the wall. This reminds me of another marker set up. Aka auto mag. As I have a spare mag body, without internals, in my possession, I am having one of those thoughts that do not end well. Think Dremel tool, files, and hand tools and long time just staring and thinking.

I would imagine adapting one of these into a mag body would be way, way more trouble than it would be worth, you can pick up used or busted ION's for cheap, and it would go in easily.

Yoda, let me know when your Vibe kits are ready. Looks like my closed bolt ion is gone for good, but I'd love to throw one in a Vibe body.

First update to the classic Ion conversion kit version. I designed a better way of retaining the rear fitting and the firing piston that has a few advantages.
  • The piston is 40% lighter than before
  • The chamber is devolumized slightly which helps both efficiency and reducing shootdown at higher rates of fire
  • The kit is less obtrusive on the outside of the gun visually
  • no more need to remove the back end of the body like when doing a BOB mod, a simple hole for some tubing will suffice for a barbed fitting, smaller cutout for a push to connect elbow

So unless someone is bent on having the version with the extended donut, all subsequent kits will be shipped with this style back end - the donut and rear plug are no more.

This is the extent of the kit outside of the firing can, except for the fitting.

Original piston on the left, Version 2 on the right.

Piston guide visible inside the can.

The front of the piston guide is hexed so you can install it with a 1/2" nut driver.

Breakdown of the guide. I will be adding an additional air groove and hole in the center piece to aid in maximizing airflow.

Back side of the outer portion of the guide. O-ring seals against the back inside of the can forcing air to move between the 2 pieces that the piston rides in and into the chamber only when the piston is forward.
