Got some results, the gun was oiled and cleaned before testing. I was using a Sanchez Machine Orbium 3 barrel with a 14" tip and the paint was bore-matched with a .683 sizer. Paint used was Formula 13 black and red shell with a "Panthers Paintball" logo printed on it. The temperature was approx 20*C with medium humidity and little to no wind. Each shot was taken on a stationary chrono with about 5 seconds between each shot. Each 12ie was loaded with the gun facing up to avoid liquid going into the gun. Also when shooting, the gun was angled about 10* upwards with the pump handle being held forward For a "good shot" I'm referring to velocities that are 250ish+, usually around the fields velocity limit which in this case is 300FPS. For a "usable shot" it means all the goods shots PLUS the velocities that have potential to be used as a killing shot in game, so pretty much anything over 200 FPS. 1st - (Air up shot) 305 [Velocity adjusted 1/4 turn back] 284 282 232 (Sudden drop) 292 - - - - (Some local guys saw me testing and were all Ooooh Ahhh when I let them shoot it) 285 285 274 280 291 254 274 296 308 303 283 281 281 284 245 [Velocity drop here] 220 189 -Released 12 gram- Results: 24 good shots/26 usable shots/One large velocity drop 2nd 302 282 296 285 299 288 296 293 277 286 292 279 303 286 271 277 274 266 [Velocity starts to drop here] 255 257 247 253 222 236 214 -Releases 12ie here- Results: 22 good shots/25 usable shots 3rd [MAY HAVE SCREWED UP LOADING THE 12ie ALLOWING alot of Co2 to PURGE) 294 285 - -(Forgot that the last ball needs to shaken into breech) 304 292 302 287 288 291 294 288 268 277 262 260 250 233 [Dropped already] 215 214 193 -Released 12i- Results: 17 good shots/20 usable shots/Believe I screwed up putting in the 12ie or had a bad one Performance before spring change: [Was tested on blazing hot day (30*C) with same paint and bore matched] -Farting -Consistency problems [Average of velocities 250-290] -Approx. 21 good shots without a slow dropoff, sudden velocity plummet at end of 12ie (Ex. 280, 285, 201, done) -Lots of velocity spikes Performance change after resprining (Hard but 1cm shorter valve spring; Red madman hammer spring): -Farting less obvious -Quieter -A few extra usable shots per 12ie -Much more consistent [Average velocity of 280-290ish] -Approximately 3-5 more good shots per 12ie -Less velocity spikes; only once in a blue moon -Seems to be more accurate and consistent -Stiffer and smoother pump stroke Conclusion: 12 gram efficiency only slightly increased (average 3-5 extra shots) but may be even more efficient with minor adjustments to the velocity adjustor. Shooting at a lower velocity (275-280 rather than 285-290) will also increase efficiency more. The main change was the consistency of the shots, it is performing much better than before. Also the shots changed from a low pitched fart like, "BBPPRAUUP" to a snappier "PRAKUP" if that even makes sense. I'll update more once I actually get to go out and chrono again and try a different spring combination.

So change the springs to a red heavy valve spring and...the other one to? Where do we put the red heavy valve spring? Brand of spring is maddman? Just a standard maddman spring kit I haven't ever bought one... |

Thanks! Tanongi - Nice! I am begninning to suspect gremlins. I also believe I know where the gremlins are. Way back when I was innitially testing the prototype, I had problems with valve farting and around a 18-20 shot count. I changed valve springs and dropped the farting and increase the shot counts to 25+. I'm thinking that original valve spring got mixed up with the one that I changed to, and thats what I had replicated ( the old one). What do you bet that I did those assembly videos right after castle. Guess I need to scrounge up some new valve springs. Crap. | |

Dukie: Ah, that would make sense, another problem I had initially was that the velocity was a pain to adjust and just couldn't make up its mind. It would be stuck at 260FPS and when you try to adjust it, it would not change but when you turn the adjustor pased a certain point it jumped to 300+, that problem was also fixed by swapping the springs. I'm going to keep playing around with different combinations but what tensions/spring types would you suggest skiddish9999: Yes, both springs are red for me and yes, Maddman makes many things, most known for their valves and springs. Use the Maddman nelson spring kit, if you have a phantom spring kit, you can get the hammer spring from there. Getting to the valve spring is easy, simply follow the steps to remove your feed tube but remove the top screw completely. After that undo the screw on the bottom that holds the guide rod for the feed tube; but be careful, the spring is behind it so it'll do a "Jack-In-The-Box" launch if you don't hold it. The cupseal will also fall out with it. You can get to the hammer spring by removing the trigger group, not the ATI grip. Remove the four small screws in the trigger group and on the other side of it you will see a larger spring with a plunger that the adjustor screw presses on. Just push the plunger forward by hand and pop the spring out.

So the madman valve spring works even though it is significantly shorter?

I put the red spring from a phantom kit in mine and it helped quite a bit. I cheated a little since I'm now running constant air through a dummy 12 gram, but it worked great at the field this weekend. Reloading under fire is a little hairy but I'm sure I'll get better with practice. I'm ordering a madman spring kit today to see if I can get it up and running on 12 grams a little nicer. On the plus side, it felt awesome at the field and shot straight. I didn't like the way my remote line stuck off of the dummy 12 gram so I put a 90 degree elbow on it to point it down instead of out. Thanks to that little piece, I am officially the first MCB'er to put brass on a DSG. Woo-Hoo!
