First try

I finally got some time this weekend to try home anno. It didn't come out as good as I had hoped. I skipped a lot of steps and made a lot of substitutions.

Things I could improve:
1. My Sodium Bisulfate was mixed for an unknown concentration. may need to be increased.
2. I didn't clean aluminum well. I did a quick sand but didn't use steal wool.
3. I never etched with sodium hydroxide. Forgot to buy it.
4. My battery was only 4 volts and may have been dead(low current).
5. I left the part in the Sodium Bisulfate for about 4 hours. Maybe to long.
6. My dye was not RIT. I used some powder dye.
7. When I mixed the dye I used hot water. So the dye was still hot when I dipped the part.
8. Before boiling the part I scratch the dye in some places.

I will try again soon. I don't have any idea what I can even expect as a good result for dark black. Anyone else trying this?
