Home made 12g pierce seals...

First you will need Silicone PTFE Tape - adheres readily to heated surfaces, repositionable without residue and is able to tolerate constant ambient temperatures from -100° to 500°F (-73° and 260°C).
You can buy it here
eal easy to do and works great.

The tape thickens is, or looks to be about the same as the one you see on a CCI instapierce valve.

It's adheres, so it make it easy to work with.
I use a spent 12g as a guide where I place a small 1/4" square of the tape and stick onto the head, then cut around it with scissors.
Then while it's still stuck there, I use a small nail to put a hole through. Doing this is the best way to align a reference point where it will mate with the pin in the valve.
Lastly, remove the seal off the spent 12g. Put the spent 12g in a bucket changer.
Place the seal on the inside of the instapierce valve, and torque the seal in place with the spent 12g in the bucket chamber. Done.

I played with it last weekend. Put maybe 7 12g's through it. I think this stuff may outlast the stock seal if you ask me. And if it doesn't, just make a new one.

Cool! Good to know this works, I was going to try doing it with some sort of wax, but this seems cleaner, safer and easier!

Which of the tapes did you use? It looks like there are three (at least) that might work.

You can get orings that do the job perfectly at the hardware store for around .20/per. I've been using the same one through about 15 12ies.

I've heard. Long as they're not too thick, though I don't expect that to be much of an issue.
Nice reminder.
