Oh I know that. I'm sure I couldn't even use the cnc programming if it was one. I just need to practice on it a bit before I commit to actually trying this.

Practice is half the fun. Unless you are doing it for a living, the worst thing that could happen to your part is you make a mistake and have to start over. I used to stress about not making mistakes (which obviously it would be nice to never make one) but one day I turned my head and saw all the spare material I had if I had to start over. Much less stress when you look at it that way.

Very good point. It's just 100 miles away in my hometown at my girlfriend's grandpa's house so I can't do it just whenever.

There isnt any reason you couldnt make a full dsg pump with a manual mill and lathe. i did the first and second runs that way. they are relatively simple to make. the only turning is the od, either end face, and the bore.
