DM 7 vs 8 vs 9

hey guys been looking at BST and wondering some major differences in the 3? i know that the 8 was the first year with the eyepipe and hyper 3 so does this mean it had some problems and the 9 made ajustments to these probs?

7 is the first year with the eye pipe, actually.

8 is indeed the first year with the hyper3. Uses magnet detents instead of springs. Flow plug assembly changed a little. Introduced an internal eye carrier, eliminating the need for external eye covers.

9 introduced detents integrated into the eye pipe instead of being separate, and has a Reach trigger stock. Also the year Dye finally got rid of the stupid flow plug.

Performance is the same with all 3, though. Dye hasn't changed that in never, which is fine cuz the performance rocks. But i'd go with the DM9 just cuz of all the simplified features.

in the dm9 dont you still have to take apart the entire grip frame to take out the lpr? cant you just buy dm9 eye pipe for dm8 for like $10?

To access the set screw to remove the entire lpr assembly, yes, you must remove the frame. But you can access the most problematic portion of the lpr without doing that - the main seal (that black rubber dot in that back pocket of the lpr adjustment screw). Backs right out if you remove the lpr backcap. The rest of the lpr sees little wear & tear.

Dm9 eye pipe will fit the dm8, yes.

The main advantages to the dm9 are actually the exclusion of the flow plug (HATE those things) and the Reach trigger is stock. I'm finding used prices for 8's and 9's being pretty similar, enough to justify getting a 9.

The Reach trigger didn't ship stock with the DM9, it was stock with the DM10.

The removal of the flow plug was AWESOME. Best reason to go with a DM9 ergonomically.

There were a couple other things different between the DM8 and DM9, the biggest being that the DM9 bolt assembly is actually shorter in length then previous markers. This also leads to some differences in tuning. I have a fairly stock DM6, save a Virtue OLED board and CP flow plug. Tuning wise I run the LPR at 4 turns out with a Dwell of 18ms. On my DM9 with a BWing bolt, I run the LPR at 2 1/2 turns out with a Dwell of 16ms. Quite the difference...

Stock DM9 trigger has the same reach adjustments as the Reach trigger. Manual shows it.

My mistake. I thought you were referring to the Ironman trigger. It has the same adjustments, and I've heard it called the same name.

Yep, there's an Ironmen Reach trigger. It's more of a scythe shape. Love that thing, got it on my dm7.
