Need help with my DM4. Mods?

I need advice on internal upgrades. Just kinda wondering what everyone else has done to their older DM.

Ever since I made the switch from PBN I realize the wealth of customizations that are possible to all sorts of guns, wondering if there were any such here.

Tophat mod? Tophat mod is simply a wrapping on the tophat to reduce the space the air takes up, improves efficiency a little. Something as simple as electrical tape works, although vinyl tubing is a cleaner-looking solution.

Eigenring from Lurker PB is a nice internal upgrade.

Polish the bolt, if you have the means. Or get Pooty to do it for you on pbn. Or get a Billy Wing bolt.

EPEK flow plug from Paintballer187 to get rid of the annoying on/off below the barrel.

The DM4's shot chamber is already correctly sized; I see no need for a top hat mod on that gun. If I were you I'd look into quad X-rings for areas that slide and internally seal (as opposes to externally), and get the LPR set as low as possible with the gun still firing.

Hmm alright well, the top hat mod has been in there since I can remember, I've had this thing since probably '06. Best to take it out?

Eigenring is definitely on my list, I like Lurker's stuff.

Pooty will be seeing my bolt soon as well. (As soon as I find an Ego feed neck for my Phantom to send to Stanch)

I know nothing about the quad X-rings, sounds like something I would have stuck in my face in high school.

And my LPR has been very nice and low, one of the smoothest shooting guns I've ever shot. Don't remember setting but I think I was running old ironmen settings so around 19-22 on dwell and 2 1/2 - 3 turns.

Quad rings are not only more resistant to blowout (important in the small end of the top hat) but also create less friction, meaning less pressure is needed to slide moving components. Therefore you can potentially go lower on the LPR than you could with regular o-rings.

The top hat mod... well I could launch into a big discussion of why it exists and what it used to accomplish and why it was necessary at one point. The thing is, putting it in a DM4+ only raises the operating pressure of the gun. This does not make the gun shoot any more or less efficiently. It's only going to put more stress on the internal top hat o-ring (small end) and also make the gun slightly louder. That's it.

As always, bones has the scoop. I would say that with the addition of the UL frame, you've gone 99% of the way there.

I would highly encourage you to look into the DM4/5/C continuous flow plugs from EPEK:

EPEK Products - EPEK DM4/5/C On/Off Plug - Black

I loath the pointy on off. Throw one of these on there and you can grip the whole front more comfortably.

Lastly, I do not like how tall the DM4 is with a regular rise feed. You could always get a CCM no rise and chop down that hopper...YMMV...
