You have to be carefull if you retaliate. My uncle had his car stollen (honda). All of a sudden a bunch of honda parts started showing up in craigslist and he recognized the door that had the same scratches on it his had. Called the cops and they couldn't prove that it was his car because anything that had a vin was missing it. My uncle got so pissed he signed the guy up for gay persional ads and every match making website he could find. He got arrested for harassment. Luckily my Uncle got a slap on the wrist. The judge actually thougt it was funny as hell, but said he could have been charged with a felony.

So be carefull.

Too bad for your uncle, because VIN tampering is against the law in many states.
