I've never seen that before. Doesn't seem very honest to post 3 markers and then say you can only have one... seems a bit fishy to me.

Seems odd, and a bit miss-leading for those who don't read...but I don't see anything really wrong with it...He clearly states that you are bidding on your choice of the three. He might be trying to get a list of interested people from the bidder list that he can contact to try to sell the other two outside of eBay after number one is gone...that would obviously be against their policy, but if he's just trying to sell them in a unique way, then I'd say it's fine. Not sure if he's allowed to advertise other services on eBay, but I've seen other auctions do similar, and they haven't been taken down. Only thing I see that explicitly really break their rules is the shipping worldwide thing. I though eBay recently set a rule that only allows you to ship inside the states (and possibly Canada).

| Nerd=Geek | Technically, markers on ebay.com aren't supposed to be shipped to Canada. BUT it doesn't seem to stop anyone. I've only ever had 1 or 2 people out of a few dozen tell me that they won't ship to Canada.

If eBay doesn't put a stop to it, I think it's great that the seller is "thinking outside of the box". With 3 markers for people to choose from, he might just drive up the bidding higher than it could go for a single marker. He can always follow up that listing with one for the other two, done the same way.

"I charge $40 for the first hour (regardless of if it takes the whole hour or not) then by the 1/2 hour after that." Hmm, how do we know he doesn't keep it for a day and say it took seven hours to fix...

That is exactly what he is doing. I have seen this done with regs, cocker bolts, cocker bodies... He hopes 2 or three different individuals are going to buy different pumps and they drive up the price...the winning bidder gets his choice and he offers 2nd chance/or outside ebay sales on the other two. He is maximizing his profits! Still, I do not think this is honest. Ebay probally will not do anything. | |
