| Kind of but not exactly....The Etek was designed as a lower priced, lower maintenance workhorse of a marker compared to the lighter, faster, more elite Ego line. The lack of a QEV reduces maintenance and potential porblems and the lack of an LCD reduces some of the features but neither of those things are really huge when you consider the price difference between the Etek and Ego. Etek's are more like '05 Ego's without QEV's than the newer model Ego's. The reason that they seem like the "perfected Ego" is that they are rock solid in performance and reliability due to their simplified but less elegant design. The original Etek and new Etek2 are virtually identical guns internally with most of the drastic changes involving cosmetic and barrel upgrades. While similar, the Etek and Ego are different guns and the price points of both indicate that. I would not hesitate to buy another Etek as prices on new '07 Eteks are around $200 to $250 less than an Etek2 and for those prices they are definitely the best electro gun you can buy for the money. Ego7's are around $800 new and they are also a great value at that price compared to the Ego8's.

| hmmm, I never heard about an 07' or 08' Etek planet eclipse has never had a year based production line of Eteks just the original Etek & Etek 2 there are some internal differences between the two models though 1) the inline reg is EXACTLY like the 08' Ego line (also the sl74 too) on the Etek 2.. aluminum pistons & spring instead of washers 2) the board board boasts a little more adjustability & now has a removable micro-switch that can be changed/upgraded... not to mention the new Etek 2 board is in the grip frame sideways (compared to the previous model) & has a pretty high quality battery connector 3) the OOPS is the same as the 08' Ego line if you know the details, this would prove to be "different" internals so-to-speak just putting in my two cents since we're splitting hairs - no offense ment -chris |

The main point of my post was to make it clear that the Etek and Ego lines are different guns on multiple points and that the Etek was a simpler Ego built to be more rugged, easier to maintain and less expensive for those who didn't want to pay Ferrari prices and do Ferrari maintenance when they really only needed a Corvette. Both cars will go fast and get you where you're going but each is aimed at different types of customers. It's the same thing with the Ego's and Eteks. It's easier to type '07 Etek than "original Etek" over and over again and since the Etek2 was marketed as "New for '08" I didn't think I would anger the gods by labeling them by their years. Although not marketed as such it is possible to tell the difference between an '06 and '07 Etek if you really want to split hairs. The guts and performance of the Etek2 and the Etek are mostly the same and that's why I said they were basically the same. It's a refinement, not a redesign. I'm not saying the Etek2 is a bad gun or no better than the Etek and it's certainly a nice evolution of the line but at $675 vs. $425 to $450 I find it hard to justify purchasing an Etek2 over an Etek because IMHO there is not $250 of improvements and the original Etek gives the owner little to complain about. If they were the same price or even within $50 or $75 of each other it would be a tougher call but at current new prices for both guns and essentially the same performance where the rubber meets the road so to speak, the original Etek is the best value in the price range.

Only the "NEW" things on the feature list are changes. Note that the "Available Upgrades" are not included and are compatible with all Eteks.
