The seller can still sell the marker below the reserve if he/she wants. The way the seller ran this auction is like an OBO, the seller states an asking price (reserve) and sets it to go, they could take less if it is appealing enough, if it goes high enough they know they will be satisfied, and if it goes above the original asking price then more dollars in their pocket (no top end limitations like a Buy It Now would have)
