Analog Range Finder?

I would love a way to judge range like bowhunters have, but much smaller. Something like a single sight.

What's our typical FSR ranges we need to figure out, 30 yards to 100 yards?

Forgive the rude phone sketch, but something like this that determined range by a player's mask size

If it could be mounted to an offset rail on the gun it would be quick to get a range estimate, then twist the gun to regular sights, adjust for range and fire.

As opposed to whipping out an electronic range finder, using it with a mask lens, then putting it back safely into a pack- all before you have even adjusted your sights for the shot.
Thoughts?

The biggest "issue" is making sure the distance between your eye and the measuring plate remains constant.

Definitely, I'm thinking this would be mounted as close as most guns would allow (right under the back of most scopes) or barrel mounted at a set distance away from the eye

I think you might want a fixed point, kinda like a rear sight, to place your mask against to guarantee a fixed distance. The smallest change in the position of your eye, will result in large change in the perceived distance of the target.

So long as the distance between the eye and measuring plate is fixed, it will work.

A alternative to the fixed position would be to use a two part site where a set of marks on one must line up with marks on the other.

Not sure if I am explaining that right or not. It may not be as precise as a fixed distance but it would allow for a few different mounting options (or using it free-handed) without having to deal with calibration issues.

what about this? Bit expensive (list $1,114.00) but 30 - 80 yards might be perfect for your application.

It would need to be recalibrated for human size, but beyond that it would work well... Of course the price tag is fairly steep.
