I haven't heard of anyone picking an MR5 out of the box and having it work with FS rounds.

What's the concensus on the Hammer-7?
Can they actually load FS rounds without breaking them?

I've own multiple FS markers.

I feel for your ballistic tests that you would want as consistent of a system FPS wise as possible. I would say go with the BT Trracer on the low end, the DAM on the high end.

The Traccer has been by far the most stable, even without a reg, FS marker I've used. It's proven to be more FPS consistent than my H7, milsig parpro, MR5, and TPX and it's cocker threaded so you'll have better access to a wider range of barrels.

Backdraw is you'll have to hand load each shot, which can get tedious. I made a sten-looking FS spring loader for mine that holds 8 shots. It wouldn't be hard to make one yourself.

But yea for a low price point FS barrel ballistic comparison, having the FS seated in the barrel same place each time would help eliminate variables an open bolt platform (MR5) will have, and it has, for me anyways, proven to be more stable over the chrono compared to the H7.

If the testing is to determine the performance of the rounds, you really don't need that great of a consistency, since, you need to record all of the data anyways.

Consistency will help on the field, more than anywhere else.

Thanks gents.

I ended up getting the MR5. I'll almost certainly be hand loading rounds so the added inconvenience of the pump action was a bit of a turn off. If I need to do some custom milling or modifications to get the MR5 working agreeably with the rounds its no big deal and, in so far as consistency is concerned, where its vital I can hook up the marker to a regulator using some of the fittings I have lying around.
