Fitizens.. Lend me your ears! -- Weight Loss Contest --

Looking for some dedicated folks willing to work hard and get fit.

Post up in this thread.

12 Week Challenge.

I'll be doing this too....

We'll need your [ Sex, Age, Height, Weight ] So post it up. I'll keep a running tally of everyone. Every Monday we check in and post up our new stats. Optional stats will be "waist line". Get a body measuring tape and keep track of it.

I bought and use this one:
Amazon.com: MyoTape Body Tape Measure: Health & Personal Care

It's cheapish, but, hey.. it's cheap and does the job.

Next will be to sign up on a fitness calorie tracking site. I recommend:

MyPlate - Food Diary & Food Calorie Counter | LIVESTRONG.COM

But you can use whatever one works best for you. But you will need to track calories. At least for the first two to three weeks until you got it down pat. If you stall, go back to tracking every calorie.

Figure out how many calories you need in a day, and stick to it! You will be allowed a few cheat meals during the week. So make them count, but do not go overboard.

Cardio: I'm going to recommend the 9 week Couch to 5K program

Couch to 5k - C25K Running Program

Time to get off our butts, and back into shape. If you can do more. Do more. I recommend 3 cardio workouts a week. If it's not running, then walking, biking, something that's going to last 30 minutes three times a week!

Weight Lifting:

I'm currently doing the stronglifts 5 x 5 program. I love it. It's easy to get started, doesn't take forever in the gym or at home (I work out at home), and you see some great results!

I created an Excel sheet you can keep, or upload to Google docs. Download it here:

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/carter/f...ts_Workout.xls

[ right click -> download ]

Weight lifting is optional, but recommended. Cardio is not optional.

EDIT: Make your own lifting program:

So what do you think?
Who's in with me? There will be prizes to the winners, aside from just looking freaking awesome. I'll have a few prizes depending on who signs up. One for greatest percentage of fat loss, one for muscle gain, and whatever else we can think of.

Photos are optional for those that dare.

Since I'm in, here are my stats as of today:

Male, 5' 10", 35 years old, 219.1 lbs

The official start will be next week, allowing folks a week lag time to join up. So you have today and all next week to sign up and get started.

I will personally help people with caloric intake, setting up some eating plans, and we'll start a recipe thread for ideas on what to eat.

I'm going to think on it. I've needed some motivation, this might do the trick.

hmmm, I could be down with this, I have about 10-15 I want to lose. one problem w/ the cardio though, I have Plantar fasciitis and probably wont take up running again for another year or so to give it more time to heal, know a good site that would be the equivalent for biking (i dont know much about biking for exercise, speeds to maintain, etc)?

Hmmm... I'd consider this, but I'd need some other kind of lifting regimen. I've got a couple different size dumbells here, but nothing else. Cardio should be covered, I've got a nice treadmill.

Not sure about biking programs, but as long as you do 30 minutes, 3 times a week, I don't care what the exercise is. As long as it raises your heart rate into a "working" category and you sweat.

As for lifting, this was only a suggestion, as it's a great full body, yet, new to lifting routine in my opinion, and since I'm doing it with the wife, I can offer advice and help on it.
