Started up again after the holiday break, I swear I've been going through withdrawals as of late. Warmed up the first session of the season with a light stress test, and after the aggression settles down after both successful and botched defenses it's just such a damned strong feeling.

Really getting the hang of the knife defense techniques, even in "aliveness" exercises. That's not to say I wouldn't first attempt to run like hell if I was looking down at a blade , but it's nice to see that theplans B through F aren't as hopeless as they once seemed.

in all fairness you're supposed to just expect to get cut up and be ok with it before you even think about plan b, at least according to my non-krav-maga instructors.

That IS the plan B. Plan A is to find an escape route and just book it, maybe deal a kick. Plan B is to divert the knife away from the vitals, shield and get a low kick in, and expect some cuts along the way. The other plans basically go from there.

(That's for a basic threat position, other techniques apply when stabs are incoming)

AKA Fan
That's cool. The latest knife fighting techniques focus on your opponent's joints, since body armor is more and more prevalent.

So... Keep that knife away from your vitals. Get a low kick in. Expect a trust into your elbow, followed with a terminal thrust into your armpit. You won't die... But you'll be incapacitated to the point that they can go into another room to find their mayo while you stumble around.

If you're unarmed against an experienced knife fighter it doesn't really matter what you do, you're going to be screwed. Blades are scary things.

That said, the elbows would be stupidly hard to hit in this scenario, especially with a foot in the groin, shins or thighs.

I was going to take km but than I learned that many police departments are really specific on what you can and can't do to defend yourself. So ill wait till I'm actually in a pd than see what has been okay'd by the department

I have no idea how it works where you're at, but in the police-specific course they offer here they apparently train specifically to stay within the limits of self-defense.They have a few different sets of courses: civilian (me), military, EMT, police, security guard, etc.
