Ford V10

So I was wondering if any of you guys have owned or known anybody with one of the V10 Super Duty trucks from around 2001. My brother recently bought one and is looking in to changing the stock exhaust. He was thinking about going with an aftermarket muffler and just dumping it in front of the axle. It also came with one of the K&N intakes that runs ~$300. So we figured we might as well get rid of the stock exhaust and make air-flow through the truck even easier.

My main question is if anybody knows how this motor sounds with after market exhaust and if anybody could recommend maybe a certain muffler/system.

We have one in one of our chase trucks. and my friends dad has one in his RV. I always thought it sounded horrible. They just don't seem to go down the road well. Buuut, if you want a good sounding exhaust, I would look into the Borla systems. They seem to make anything sound good.

Exhaust sounds are too subjective. Best just to hear it for yourself.

Yeah, I watched a couple of videos earlier, but I don't really trust sound too much. Especially on YouTube. You can watch a video of a .22 lr rifle and a .30-06 and they will sound almost identical. Whereas in real life, a .22 is just a little crack and the .30-06 will leave your ears ringing if you don't have protection.

I thought about saying the same thing, lol. Being in Texas and around truck people, I sometimes forget about Magnaflow and such. Nobody even mentions them.

The Gibson Supertruck exhaust is a great exhaust if you want something that will be loud enough when you get on the throttle, and quiet enough for cruising.

Best advice, sell it...had to drive one for work, it was pretty disappointing.

Oh and just a word on the borla, I love them on most cars and trucks, sounds like it's halfway under water, almost like it's a boat engine lol

Should have went with a diesel. Buddy had two V10 work trucks. You could watch the gas gauge drop pulling a tandem axle trailer with landscaping equipment on it. One randomly caught fire in his driveway. The other just sits because of how thirsty it is. What does your bother need the truck for?

My dad bought one of these new in 2003 because he didn't want to buy a midyear truck with the new 6.0. He added Magnaflow mufflers with dual exhaust. It sounds awful and drones worse than my C5 Z06 did with open headers but he only uses it to tow his boat so the 12k tow rating will get that job done (he has the lowest gearset, turns 8 mpg highway).

Leave it stock, doing anything as far as mods go is an absolute waste of money.

My 97 7.3L F250 4x4 has 394k miles on the clock and runs harder than my dad's 03 V10 did when it was brand new. I also get 17 MPG.

Hear the whistle, see the smoke, you just got passed by a Powerstroke.
