The Jeep Thread

Seems we had a few jeep threads as of late..why not start a jeep specific thread.

Ask questions, post pics of your ride. Just keep it jeep specific.

I have a history of owning SJ's but recently just picked up this '90 YJ with only 72,000 miles. It has bounced around various family members since new and spent about 40-50,000 behind a motor home. This summer it looks like the wife and I may be making a 2,600 mile road trip in her. She has the baby fever and this will be the last epic road trip for a year or two. Plus it kind of takes us back to when we use to travel in my '76 Cherokee. Lucky for me she really digs old vehicles . It Should be interesting with the 2.5 four cylinder. I may go back down to stock 27" tire set up.

I know this is not the most practical vehicle for a road trip but I think it will be fun. I am a sucker for "primitive" vehicles.

There's nothing wrong with driving a Jeep across country-I drove this first from Ontario to Oklahoma, then from Ontario to the Yukon in the space of a month:

2000 TJ Sport, 4.0L, 2.5" OME lift and 32" BFG T/A KOs. The Smittybuilt bumper has since been replaced by a Procomp steel bumper, and she's gotten a little rougher on account of off-roading and a small accident, but I love it to death.

Whoo hoo!! First Cherokee!! Crappy picture, but what can you do.

91 Cherokee limited. Bought it dec 26th last year. First car, actually. Planning on getting a 2 in lift, new wheels, and getting the seats reupholstered. In pretty decent shape; the clear coat is peeling a bit on the roof, and I barely nicked someone on the way home from work a few months ago, hence the scratches on the left fender.

My old XJ. 2000 Cherokee Sport, 4.0 with 190k. Ran great most of the time. Loved that thing! Only sold it to get a more economical car for commuting to school and back.

My baby, TJ with the 4.0. 160K or so on it right now.
2.5 lift, 33's (swapped the tire for something a little less aggressive recently though)
Repainting it this week actually. Rust is starting to eat through the fenders

We drove mine from MA to IN...defintly a little tedious, especially with the big tires, which makes the cruise control useless haha.

Keep debating if I wanna sell it and upgrade or not...just to attached to it haha.

Nice rigs

just did a100 mile highway run in the YJ today. with the 9.5X30's 5th gear is majorly an over drive. Ran it up to 3,500rpm in 4th to about 70mph then throw it in 5th and cruise at 3,000rpm. It is not terrible but 4th is needed to gain momentum on a slightest of grades and to make a pass

anybody know where to get a YJ fastback soft top ? appears nobody makes them. I would imagine a CJ top would fit ?

I don't think they have made CJ or YJ fastback tops for many years.

The great thing about the old fastbacks was you could roll them up, and shove them behind the seat, and basically use them like an emergency top. So I never really worried about the rain.

I have a steel hardtop now, and have been looking for a fastback. A few places make custom ones, but I'm not sure.

The closest thing online is the Quadratec Emergency Fastback

Its dirt cheap, but they don't make one for the CJ5. I think I might get one anyway, and stitch it a bit shorter.

I think the Rampage and Bestop fastback softtops can be made to fit YJs with the family cage.

I was looking at the pavement ends emergency top . but $150 for what sounds like it is PVC. pretty sure that wont last much above 35mph, plus it wraps around over the front of the windshield frame. but worst case scenario it can serve as a template to make my own canvas.

Pavement Ends tops will hold up at highway speeds, but they're loud as hell. You wouldn't want one as your everyday top.
