Is my jeep dead?

Can't get the jeep out of the drive way. Was working fine on the drive home last night, now the engine is barely running. 2003 Liberty w/ 3.6 V6 manual. The codes show multiple cylinder misfires and misfires specifically in #2. Ignition coils are good and plugs are properly gapped. There is a ping/knock/click noise coming from the engine and I can feel it through the gas pedal. There is compression in #2. the feeling in the pedal is quite unsettling. Thoughts?

Hows the fuel pressure? in lou of a fuel pressure gauage, get someone to crank the engine and depress the pin on the fuel rail by the throttle body. If you have decent fuel shooting out we can rule at the fuel pump. I'm half in the bag right now thanks to friday night drinks at the garage but I'll try to be of some use. I've come across fuel pumps going on them rather frequently. I'll skim "all-data' on the shop computer and see if I can find anything useful.

fyi there was a recall on the front lower ball joints. I found this "C15 04/01/2003 Recall - Fuel Pump Module" probably not very useful, but if you ever have HIGH fuel pressure, theres your cause. (bad module)

if your fuel pressure is good, and the engine runs (rough albeit) fire it up and get some brake cleaner and start spraying around the intake, if the idle suddenly changes, you have an intake leak or cracked manifold. Use caution with the brake clean stuff or any other product of that nature. hot exhaust manifolds and flammable areosoles can end badly lol.

Curious, how do you know the coils are good? If the on board computer knows it's misfiring there could still be something going on on the ignition side. no possible gunk inside the connection of the coil, corrosion possibly?

I have similar symptoms on my 3.6 engine in my caddy. Turns out the timing chain stretched and needs to be replaced. If it's all cylinders, maybe its a timing issue?

JLuke: pulled the ignition coil and tested primary and secondary resistance. Both are inline with specs. Granted that doesn't rule out a wire issue between PCM and coil.
Manning: Good point, it still has original chain.

A 2003 should have a 3.7, not the 3.6.

They're noted for dropping valve seats. Double check compression on all cylinders.

You may also have bad coils, or a fried driver in the PCM.

Still working on getting the passenger side valve cover off. I only had about an hour of free time to do it over the weekend. Have to pull the coolant overflow well, entire air intake system and disconnect half the wiring harness on that side. I did find the the PCV valve was bad, so i need to add that to the list of parts if i move for with the repairs.

The rocker arm had come off of #2. Am picking up two lifters and a PCV valve. Hoping to get it back together tomorrow.
