Poor scotch. Just steer clear of the Laphroaig

And Lagavulin 16 is sort of like a much, much, much easier drinking version of Laphroaig 10. I prefer the Laphroaig, but keep the Lagavulin around for more civilized company. Laphroaig 15 or 30 are both much more drinkable, but are also smoky/briny/peaty relative to other, non-Islay (aside from Bunnahabhain, which really reminds me of Glenlevit 12) scotches. Ardbeg is a lot like Lagavulin (to me, at least) but at about half the price. Anyone who wastes Laphroaig 10 - or any other 10 year single malt - for cooking deserves to be gut-shot with a .45 and pumped full of rock salt slurry :P

I'm think I'm becoming a peat monster. I'm reaching more and more my bottle of Lagavulin 16. After I finish my bottle of Highland Park 12 I'll be checking out some other Islay distilleries. I haven't even looked at my bottle of Dalmore 12 in over a month. |
