I wish they would

Venezuela is talking of possibly selling their F-16s to Iran

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12818045/

I wish they would try to do that. I have a feeling those planes would all go boom all at once.

IIRC Iran has a small fleet of F-14s that they can't get parts for either.

Both are ancient and ill maintained.

Venezuela is doing this mainly as a thumb in the eye of the US.

There are 2 places to get parts, right here in the USA and Israel. Guess who's not selling any. They can't even trade them for oil and if they try to ship them out on a boat, well it is coming up on hurricane season and any thing could happen.

We are, its just that we're not friends with Chavez

Actually I think the state department just tossed Venezuela on some list of countries not fully cooperating with Anti Terror efforts.
Which sounds a whole lot like "Double Secret Probation" to me.

well, the US doesn't like Chavez because a whole list of countries have gotten loans that pay off US debts, basically severing ties with the US.
they also bought and recieved something like 100,000 (one hundred thousand) kalishnakov assault rifles in the past few months

That and the 7.62 x 39 ammo is impossible to get. I have had 3000 rounds on back order since the beginning of the year... and now they pushed the back order to August...
Damn...
The worlds most popular bullet is currently next to impossible to get right now. Makes you wonder...

So anyways, back to the topic of the F-16s...

If Venezuela does sell them to Iran, I wonder if that would nudge the DoD into upping production of F-22s (I think they're called Raptors or something like that).

Anyways, if I were a big movie star type, like the Harrison Fords, or other jet enthusiests, I'd toss a few bucks down there to pick up my very own F-16 just so I could blow by Tom Cruise's P-38 going about Mach 2. Bet that would make him pee himself.

He's just trying to rattle our cage a bit. Iran may have some airborne for a while but they're going to have an aweful time getting spare parts and maintaining them. They would last maybe a year or two then wouldn't be airworthy. Also, their F-14's were essentially sabotaged by the US engineers when they were sent packing after the "revolution" there.
Besides, Venezuela's F-16's are older-block models anyway aren't they? I would be a whole lot more worried if Iran started to get SU-27's or the latest Mig-29's which are -arguably so- easily on par with older block F-16's and have a massive amount of spare parts readily avialable for a pittance.
It's just a political positioning game. (which he basically sucks at)
