more important, how long does it take to hack saw (dull) through your wrist?

Yeah, if it was sharp enough to saw through bone it could have made it through that threaded rod no problem... Generally speaking the ones used in building construction like that are galvanized steel which might as well be butter when you're talking about grades of metal hardness...

That was really the only major beef I had with this episode...

I think the take-away from all this is that no one involved in the production of this TV show has ever worked on their own car, owned a firearm, or gone camping.

Yeah, now that I think of it... WHY are they hanging around in the same spot just outside the city? I'd much rather be somewhere near several different small towns to be able to raid/scavenge there... Or better yet stay mobile the whole time. Seriously, if the infection became apocalyptic before a guy in a coma could die from dehydration/starvation, then how can necessary supplies be so hard to come by with so few survivors?

they said it's safer because the zombies never ventured to the mountains before.

just saw episode 3.

are there ever going to be characters who are not stereotypes in this show? between the good cop, bad cop, racist, hot head, whore, princess, sole black male recurring character, wife beater, azn with a ride and stingy old guy i can't see anything original.

How is season 2 in production? The walk on roles that they are promoting are for the 2nd season. When I read the rules it said a time and date would be provided. That makes no sense...

Not long at all actually, a lot faster than cutting through metal (he wouldn't make it through the cuffs) the rod I wonder, but then you risk breaking the blade.

A horde of gnashing zombies is just about the motivation I would need to hack through my wrist. I'm wondering how he got off the roof with one hand...

Nah dude, I work in a plant maintenance dept., with a lead "mechanic" who's too friggin' cheap to keep us stocked up on things like hacksaw blades and other normal wear items... Threaded rod like that is easy as hell to saw through, 2 minutes even with a dull blade. Add an extra minute for having to use his left hand if he's a righty. Hell, in real life, rusted and out in the elements like that, I'd bet he could have worked at it enough by hand to get it to break or at least slip off. I agree he probably wouldn't have gotten through the cuffs though, they're pretty much designed against that sort of thing.

they made a point of showing that he had gone crazy before he cut off his hand...

This is true, he definitely flipped quick. Then again, he was already probably a little past halfway there before the cuffs went on.

I was thinking the same thing about that rod though. I've cut through something similar before when I was younger. I lined up the teeth with one of the threads and burned through it. I know it took me under 5 min and I was a young teen.

Then again, it sounded like the "geeks" were coming through that door. I'm not sure I would even take the chance lol.

I dunno, I really enjoyed the episode. My only complaint was also about why he cut off his hand instead of the rod, but as was stated here already, dude was crazy, badly dehydrated, and there was a hoarde of zombies knocking at the door. I doubt he put much thought into it.
