The show is really good but...god damn have they gone off-track from the books.

sort of, but they did make it more interesting by adding more characters and having others last longer

Great episode! Seeing Sophia walk out of the barn was a big surprise to me, and watch Shane devolve into full survivor mode is fantastic. Very very well done.

I doubt Hershel knew. He said that Otis was the one that rounded up the walkers and stuck them in the barn, and it's not like Hershel had many reasons to check up on who's in there anyways. IMO the only person who could have known would be that woman who fed the chickens to the walkers, and even then I doubt she would have spent much time looking.

I only got it half right though. I didn't see the barn full of zombies before that happened. Also, how did Glenn not see her?

Hershel, I wonder if it kept quiet to keep them around. For protection. He put up a front that he didn't want them around but knew they'd stay as long as she was missing?

Glenn I don't think noticed because it was dark, he had other things on his mind and wasn't exactly scanning to see who was in there.

Even though I should have seen it coming, Sophia in the barn, I didn't. I so wanted them to find her alive. In that last minute when the camera shows the shoes shuffling toward the barn doors I said out loud, "Oh, Herschel's dead wife, wait no his step-son, oh crap noooo not the little girl!" Heart wrenching! That means she died alone and scared somewhere in the woods or in an abandoned house.

I thought Herschel was going to tip over from a heart attack right there on the scene. Shane is an asset to the group as an "operator" but he's tearing apart the cohesion and trust which they desperately need as well. Shane's actions were probably correct but acting alone like that in a crazed/angry state will get them all killed eventually. February is a long way away.

God I hate Shane and Andrea.

I love how Dale just knows everything, though.

I find Laurie (Rick's wife?) to be the most irritating character. I keep wishing for her to get eaten. Hopefully this is coming in February and will be a catalyst for Rick evolving into a darker character. Haven't read the books, but from various discussions I gather he is headed in that direction.
