USPS postal dilemma

in september of 2009 i sold an item (non-pb) to a person in japan. i have sent stuff to japan before and all over the world with out a problem. today i find the box i shipped to japan 6 months ago on my doorstep! i took a bunch of pix and have'nt opened the box yet. any opinions on how to proceed? the person i sold it to never emailed or anything saying there was a problem.

the box is marked "not claimed"

have you tried contacting them again?
i would wait a bit before doing anything, but no message in 6 months is some time.

I would try contacting them, explain what happened and verify the address to ship it to, then explain that they will need to pay for shipping again if they want you to retry.

yup found the persons email,the address matches the shipping addy provided by paypal. so no typo on my part. it's just really wierd to get this like half a year later with no contact about it from the buyer.

Bit off topic but I purchased a $10 game on ebay and a wardrobe of over-sized clothes showed up on my door step. Made some beer money from selling the clothes. That was a good week.

I had an item I shipped to Puerto Rico do the exact same thing. Came back to me after almost 6 months to the day. The guy never responded to e-mails, never asked where his item was, nothing. That was over two years ago. I realize that I've been no help whatsoever. The streak continues!

I waited about another month, and then I resold it. I've had somewhere in the area of 10-12 items come back as no such address/undeliverable, but in all but a couple of cases, the customer eventually gets back in touch.
