They are making it illegal in my province in October, but with barely enough police to enforce the current laws, I doubt it will do much.

Texting has recently been made illegal in NY as well.
Talking on a cell has been illegal for a while. "Public Safety" is worth $100 for the first offence.

Reading texts, holding your phone while in "speaker" mode are also "Public Safety" offences.

Of course this does not apply to the boys in blue.

The council just passed a similar law, which is moot until the State catches up, but I maintain that, until they make it illegal for parents to transport children under the age of, say 14, in the cabin of the car, then the politicians are not being fair...

When I was pulling out of a parking spot at the Port Authority in NY, a guy was texting and walking and walked into my car.
