Well, on the plus side, Avatar was the first 3d movie I ever saw and, frankly, I was impressed by most of the effects.

Did the movie have a plot... were the actors good? I have no idea because I was enjoying the weirdness of the effects in my "enhanced" state and missed the rest.

Would I watch it in 2d... not likely.

Also, the rash of "3d feel" or whatever those crappy pseudo 3d gigs are called are all terrible.

I saw "Clash of the Titans" and the Real Feel 3d just made everything look even crappier. What a load of garbage.

So... I am with you... probably will skip Avatar sequels and wait for the first 3d porno movie to hit the big screen.

For that, I will wear glasses... usually wear disguises in the porno theaters anyway.

I cannot handle 3D movies and have yet to leave one without a headache, needless to say I don't see a lot of them. Yes I saw a recent one (some Disney wolf thing with my kid) and yes I still left with a headache.

I saw Avator in 2D. I ignored the political undertones and generally enjoyed the movie itself.

I just recently watched the first one on Netflix about two weeks ago, and thought it was horribly boring and the plot was overly weak. I'm not a big fan of 3D, and refuse to watch movies that make me wear glasses over my glasses.

Am I the only one with that opinion? Guessing by the sales of the movie and the fact they are going to make more, probably puts me in the minority.

Anyhow, breaking news on the Avatar for the people that liked it.

I'm pretty much in agreement Carter. I will give it credit for being visually creative + stunning, but the plot was, quite literally, Ferngully in Space. Even down to the scene with the guy standing in front of the big mining machine.

I worked an event recently for Best Buy. James Cameron and Jon Landau came and gave a presentation about the Blu-ray release of Avatar and the upcoming re-release in theaters. Cameron spoke specifically about 3D and how the director has to be involved if the movie is made into 3D. He called out Clash of the Titans as that film was converted to 3D after it was shot without any input from the director. The process was rushed and done in only 3 weeks and the results speak for themselves. Cameron and Landau are currently working on a 3D re-release of Titanic.

I saw Avatar in the theater and enjoyed it. I know that the plot was the same as Fern Gully and Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas and other films. From what I understand, there are 36 basic plotlines that all of literature and film are based on. If you consider how many millions of books and movies are out there... well, you do the math. What I enjoyed about Avatar was the imagination and attention to detail. Also, I appreciate the technical marvel that the film is. I am blown away by the fact that since the technology didn't exist to make the film the way Cameron wanted he created it.

Finally, in the presentation that Cameron and Landau gave they showed the alternate beginning to the film that will be in the theatrical re-release. It actually tied Jake's character into the film in a way that I thought was lacking before. I may have to go and see the re-release just to get the different perspective on the film.

Finally, in the presentation about the Blu-ray release I was impressed by the "Family Friendly Audio Track". When the ADR was done for the film they went ahead and did an ADR track of the entire film without any offensive language. This accomplishes two things. First, you can watch it at home with your kids without exposing them to unnecessary offensive language. Second, when the film is eventually shown on network TV the language edit will have been done by the filmakers so you don't have problems with network censors ruining the film. See the TV versions of "White Men Can't Jump" or "The Big Lebowski" and you'll know what I mean.

I forgot the best part of the Cameron/ Landau experience. They had sent over the clips they wanted to show so we loaded them into the playback machine. They showed up about 30 minutes before they were scheduled to go on and wanted to see the clips. Guess what? They didn't like the clips they had sent over. Our playback tech -who is NOT an editor - spent the next 20 minutes editing clips of Avatar with James Cameron standing over his shoulder saying "No, the next frame. Yeah, that one." No pressure.

Shut up, fairy godmother!

Still haven't seen Avatar the First. It hits HBO next month I think, I'm sure I'll watch it, but after 2 failed attempts to get into the theatre I just gave up. No movie is worth that much PITA, especially if it has Smurfurries.

I think I've already given Revenge of the Smurfs all the attention it deserves. The new one is supposed to be shot partially in the Mariana Trench via a custom built deep submersible....honestly seems like another gimmick. The plot places it under the oceans of Pandora for some kind of tree hugging silliness. Can't say I give a damn.

No thanks. Never saw the first one and have no intent on seeing the follow-ups. Just like with modern games, graphics are nice, but if it doesn't have at least a decent plot I'm not interested. Shoot, I've played games that looked terrible compared the the best lookers out there, but really liked them because they held my interest with the story.
