| 'Hooked' on CCM! | A rant: Canada Post's sub-par service
Call it bad luck or poor service, but since December, most large parcels I've had shipped got delivered a few days late. If this was regular delivery, I wouldn't complain. But no, all of the above were shipped either Expedited or Express. I don't mind paying extra to get my stuff fast, but it's infuriating when the parcel gets here several days late. Oh, but wait. I can file a claim and get the shipping fees refunded. Yeah, if I'm the sender! Where's the logic in that? You're the customer, you chose the delivery method and pay accordingly, shouldn't you be able to file a claim? No! The sender has to do it! Case in point, I've order a buch of stuff from our friends over at ezcreation.ca. It was allegedly shipped Express, but upon further examination when the parcel didn't get here on time, we found out that the postal clerk shipped it Expedited. Ugh. Alright, so I had to wait a few more days. Yesterday was the expected delivery day. Did I get it? Of course not! If this was an isolated incident, I wouldn't be flipping lke this, but this has happened 4 times since December. I am so fed up with Canada Post. And my new S6.5 is shipping from CCM in a few days. Will Canada Post drop the ball this time too? I hope not because I won't be a happy baller. Allow me to digress here a bit - crappy service is everywhere nowadays. The cable company, the local telco, electronic superstores, the grocery store. It looks like the small ma and pa shops are the only ones providing honest to goodness, genuine service nowadays. Take a look at CCM - anyone who's ever ordered a marker from them can attest to this. These folks will bend backwards for their customers. Be it brick and mortar shops or online stores, it looks like the smaller companies are the only place to go for good service. As for the rest of the retail world, customer service is in a sad, sad state.

Yeah, Canada post has now started leaving packages for me on my door step...in the middle of the day...while no one is around... This is a new development which I will have to ask them to stop doing. I do not mind going to the post office to pick up packages. I do not want unsecure packages left on my step... I feel you pain brother. Too many unions making honest work a rarity these days.

Thankfully I work from home, so unattended packages at my doorstep are a rare thing. But yeah, I've have that happen to me. I had a huge parcel dropped off during a big snow storm and it was partially covered with snow. When I got home I amost didn't see it.

A few days late!?!? Try a few weeks. Ive been recieving parcels regularly from across the boarder over the last few months. Most come in at 2-3 weeks late. One parcel from NY to Toronto (a sling) is taking upwards of a month and a half. And im still waiting... Heck, chinese mail takes a shorter amount of time! One parcel was at my local preocessing station awaiting delivery for 2 whole weeks. Just sitting there collecting dust. I offered to pick it up but they said they need the machine to sort it, and it would take longer to find it. I also hate that the shipper has to file the complaint. I try to ask the shipper to do so, but some are too lazy. If Canada post wants to improve their service, complaints should be addressed on both ends. |

Oh I feel your pain! This specific parcel is a few days late, but others have been weeks late. I don't know if this is a sign or not, but I notice that anything that gets sorted through Toronto takes forever, while Ottawa and Montreal sorting stations are usually fast.

Shipping from the US is a whole other can of worms. I think Hook was getting mad at the fact that the items he was waiting on originated inside of Canada. I have noticed that stuff coming from the states has gotten better recently as is stuff I ship down there. I just have to pay $20+ to ship anything now...

Me? Not only the postman doesnt even bother to come up, but he also aint leaving the attempted delivery note! I get the note delivered a few days later by the postman that brings the envelope mail.... For one package, i got the note, on the last day before it was going to be shipped back to the shipper... So these days, when i expect a package, i routinely check at the post office, since i cant trust them to actually deliver my package.... Bloody ...

They are friggin brutal. For example, I was shipping a package to Australia which as a smallish box large enough to accomodate a gun body with some packing material. Cost to ship, over $45......will take up to TWO MONTHS......no tracking. WTF.....it is going by sailboat with the next load of convicts from England ? The next best was 3 weeks and tracking.....$67. I walked out, went home and got my passport, crossed the border into the US and shipped the same box with tracking....10 business days for $33. My local post office is also staffed by minimal intelligence apes who all act like its their first day on the job yet have been behind the same counter for over 2 years. Their slot and stupidity has caused me to leave the line and walk out numerous times. I must be some sort of saddist to keep going back. Its so bad that I actually shy away from shipping within my own country as its easier to sell to buyers in the US. I actually cross the border once per week to ship items to the US and for pick ups too. For $5.70 USD, I can ship a small flat rate priority box anywhere in the US and it gets there usually within 2-5 business days. The same box from Canada would cost anywhere from $15-$25 and take up to 3 weeks. If you declare that you shipping items that you have sold, the US border guards will charge you a flat import fee of $11 for an unlimited number of packages but its still cheaper.
