Not any more than a bang stick does. Both bang sticks and Shark Darts are known as auto-chummers. I have a bang stick in. 357 and I can personally attest it clouds the water.
The Waspknife/Farllon Shark dart was actually designed to be used on a poll. If you have to get that close to a shark that is misbehaving you have problems. On the shark dark the deeper you go the less effective the lift action, is due to partial pressures. It would still suck being on the receiving end.
