[QUOTE=HurtCow;1775287]What's the appeal of 'ape hangers'? They look like they'd be really awkward.

Here's a vid of the one somebody posted earlier:

Not the same one but one of others like that, Regular Apes, I was running 16's on two inch risers, are actually pretty comfortable, The only issues where you feel it are slow speeds like a parking lot, you have a lot more leverage so it reacts faster.
I had straight drag bars on my Sporty, and that riding position was way more tiring on long stretches then the Apes.

Just sayin'. Many of the 650's are similar if not the same motors out of the older top of the lines and they're more affordable.

I'm with you on the MSF course though. I was pleased to find FL had made it a requirement when I came back last year. I don't think everyone should stop at the basic course though. Their other courses are excellent as well and it's great to get a refresher after awhile. We all tend to develop bad habits.

The apes I ran were about shoulder high and were more comfortable on the "open road".

Went digging around on an old Chopper Forum I used to Moderate for (Hence the name) and found some old bikes of mine. I never seemed to take pics of the bikes once they were finished.

Anyways:

'66 Honda Scrambler (Did a restore on this one rather than chop and drop):

Me working on my '81 Suzuki GS 550 (in the back you can see a couple more frames)

My Custom Chopper frame at my buddy's place. He had a Tig and a Jig:

More mock ups of the same bike:

My Yammy XS650 w/ both Drags and Apes:

Are those air cleaner pods on the carbs?

If so, that's your problem right there.
