Jerry Garcia fans, I need your help...

I have this briefcase that I got after a relative passed away. He was a big dead head and I think he bought this online a few years ago.

It is a leather briefcase with 2 combo locks on top. Those lock have never been set. There is a pattern on the outside of the case and is all leather on the inside.

Here are the pics:

I am trying to find out if any of you know anything about this or know the price it could fetch.

I am looking for some cash for maybe a new firearms purchase so I want to try and sell this somewhere. This is not a for sale thread, I am just trying to find out some info on it or what it is worth.

Here is a site I found with some info but that one apparently has a plate which denotes its number and mine doesnt.
For Sale: Jerry Garcia Limited-Edition Briefcase - Spinner

Anyone have any info?

Drum might know. I just remember his name being used to sell all kinds of BS like ties. You know, because all good dead heads love ties.

I actually just messaged him. I know he was a fan of the dead. Thanks for the tip though.

As with anything, throw it up on ebay and see what happens. Your link is 3 years old and I didn't see if it actually sold at the mentioned price.

ummm.... There is more than 1 J. Garcia in the world. It could have belonged to Jose Garcia as well....

Just sayin....

Jerry did allow he name on a lot of stuff, and from the pics is looks like one of the thiings he would have done, but there are also tons of fakes. Bring it to a couple collectible shops and see what they say.

edit: It seems I posed the exact link you found, best to take it to a collectible shop of some kind and get their opinion. If it's missing the numbering plate that's a little odd.

I have not seen such a briefcase before, but it is pretty cool. Let me know what you find out, price-wise.

As for the brand name, I have a few J.Garcia ties. Supposedly designed on his paintings. They look to be of a similar style to that top of that briefcase.

I doubt it is that old... and may even still be available for purchase new.

Good luck,
D

edit: Here you go... figure y'all don't have access to google in Md.

http://www.spinner.com/2008/12/12/fo...on-brief-case/

limited to 300 according to that. Good luck on your sale!

Let me call up my buddy who's an expert on musician briefcases.
I don't know if I want it. I mean, the market for old briefcases has really taken a dive with the economy.
I have to find the right buyer, it's gonna sit on my shelf forever.

I posted that link and now looking over it, the for sale ad was posted in 2008. (same one Drum posted)

Looking at the picture, it was signed Michael Gold which is the guy I got this from. The exact same briefcase that is in that ad is this one. That's kinda creepy but oh well.

Maybe I will have to check out that dead site and see if I can find some more info on it. Sadly there is no documentation or anything along with the case.
