Damn, I looked up the story. The whole crew went above and beyond to protect their Marines on the ground. They were on their way home and turned back to take out a missile battery to save the lives of others.

Based on what I know of S7G's service history, I'm inclined to assume he was supposed to be onboard that day.

IIRC S7G was a spooky/spectre crew member, so I'm geussing he was either supposed to be on that gunship or maybe his got grounded and they took his place.
