Your near death experience!

I'm sure everyone has had one, or one that was close enough to have scared the bejeebers out of you!

Here's mine and I'm sure it is tame to others!

It was about 20 years or so ago, I was on my way home after work and I was driving my GPZ 750 Turbo.... God I loved that bike. Anyways I'm doing the speed limit which was 90 km/h or 55 mph for my American friends (In this case had I been speeding I would have avoided the whole accident lol) As I came into a sharp curve there were around 6 to 7 cars coming my way but the last one decides to pass the other cars in the curve coming straight for me, first thing I said was "****" I remember that so clear, then I hit the brakes but realized in that instant that skidding in a curve would not be good so decided to try and white line it in the hopes to miss him and not catch the gravel because that end result would end as equally bad. But lo and behold this instant split second plan went out the door because at the same time the driver that was passing the other cars saw me and slammed on his brakes causing him to slide sideways down the road and his front bumper was now over the white line which I was on. I tried to avoid hitting him the best I could but my fairing just clipped his bumper which shot me down into a ditch around 8 feet deep, as I started going into the ditch I thought I cannot go into this on the bike and threw myself away from the bike. I remember skipping across the ground on my left shoulder my legs up in the air ( I was wearing a full face helmet, leather jacket and leather glove) I came skidding to a stop right beside a head sized rock and thought to myself "Holy f*&^ I'm still alive?" then saw the driver running over to the edge of the road to ask if I was OK, which at this point anger hit and I threw my helmet and proceeded to ask him "What the f*&% do you think you were doing?" To make a long story short he didn't want to call the cops because he didn't have any insurance or a license, but i insisted and in the end he ended up with around $800 in fines and I had to have my insurance cover the cost of my bike. Oh and when the tow truck arrived to pull my bike out they had to pull it out the same way it went in because it had gone in sideways and had accordioned itself in the ditch like a wedge. You couldn't budge it an inch and I heard the tow truck strain to pull it out

So in short that moment has stuck with me as to my close call. I have tons more but those were just because I was young and stupid

Looking forward to hearing yours and how your still here to play paintball and tell it!

Seeing my mom almost die when I was 13 had a much deeper impression on me than any near-lethal experiences of my own... my dad was out of the country, my mom got tetanus, and while I'll leave out the scary details, she almost died in front of me and I called 911 and got her to the hospital, where she code blued twice over the next few days and survived a 90% mortality rating (Vancouver General had only seen two other cases in some 20 years and both died). I think that incident was a major factor in my deep sense of maturity and responsibility from a young age, along with having 3 younger sisters to look after. It also wasn't the first time she nearly died in front of me, but I'll leave out the rest. She's in great health these days

i was 16 - living in ft. lauderdale florida where the land really isnt land - its kinda like dirt and sand mixed - soft and not to stable.
i was helping a buddy fit some lovely - illegal- flexpipe onto his pinto waggon's exhaust to quiet it down so we didnt get stopped by the cops on the way to the beach . we had said car up on 2 jacks and 4 cement blocks and i was under the car fitting the flex pipe to what was left of his rusty exhaust pipes when the car "tilted" and came down off the blocks- crushing me under it
** remember i said above the ground was a softer mix ? it saved my azz... the cars weight crushed me down into the soft ground far enuff to allow me to live - i was under the car for 20 minuites- broke alot of bones, punctured internal stuff, and really f'd me up for quite some time but i lived thru it

- to this day im not to cool with tight spaces

To the OP: I am so happy you said you were wearing full gear. Nothing aggravates me more than someone riding a bike without proper gear.

Now, I truly believe that riding a longboards IS going to kill me eventually, and that's why I don't do it that often.

Early last year(April) 2 weeks after getting a new bored, I RUINED my leg:

It will literally never be the same, but I still ride.

Infact, about 2 months later, I was cruising down Bayfield Street in Barrie, Ontario, which for those of you who have never seen it(Most of you, I'm sure) is just a BIG hill. Well, I'm pretty good about keeping my speed consistent through carving, and I was moving with the traffic. I came through an intersection that's near the bus station, and this Greyhound bus RUNS THE LIGHT.

Now, I don't know if it's a sign, but the bus missed me by about 2 feet, and I made it through the intersection alive. Amazingly the car behind me was turning right, so he didn't get hit either.

The incident scared me so much that I had to sit, call for a ride, and I didn't get back on the board for about 2 weeks. I have since started riding again, but I am much more careful. No more cruising with traffic...

I was riding my bike (old school hipster bike, not motorcycle) to class. I was crossing through an intersection and next thing I know I'm flying through the air. A big Isuzu truck had hit me and I walked away from it with nothing more than a skinned elbow. The guy driving it was incredibly nice though, "Oh my god are you okay? I'm so sorry, I didn't see you!" He could've just as easily kept driving.

Hey hey hey, I'm no hipster. It was a nice bike for $100 so I bought it.

Rule of thumb for hipsters: If something like a T-Shirt is $5 or below they will buy it to be ironic, otherwise it must be at least $70. Anything $6-$69 is no mans land for them. For bikes it's more like $5 or below, or $800.

I was maybe 3 years old, but I remember the incident very clearly.
I was in my grandparent's kitchen when my mom handed me an entire box of chocolate Teddy Grahams. That got me ridiculously excited and I ran into the living room.

In that living room, my grandfather had a custom made coffee table that had a 2" thick bullet proof glass surface. As I ran into the room, I tripped right in front of the table...

I fell right against the edge of the glass, head first. Thankfully, my left cheekbone took the impact. If I had tripped a hair sooner or later, things would have been very different.

I ended up with a swollen, bloodied and blackened face and a terrified mother, but that was it. I still remember lying on the couch, looking up at my dad and grandfather while they were making sure I was alright.

Teddy Grahams nearly killed me...
