I am pretty sure only US teams get to play in the super bowl so why is it a world title? Honestly I don't have much sport knowledge.

Everybody tells me the CFL teams suck in comparison...but at least we don't need that extra down to get anywhere.

I'm satisfied with this answer.

It's a combination of 1 part arrogance and 1 part technicality and a whole lot of tradition.

American style Football such as the NFL plays is still very young in the handful of other countries that play it. American Football has been played in the United States professionally for over 75 years and considerably longer than that on the college level. This is where the tradition comes in. For many years, the NFL was all there was on a professional level. This meant that their champion was by default, the World Champion. By the time other countries started competing at the professional level, Super Bowl winners being considered World Champions was common practice and stuck.

This has also created a perceived (and realistically it's probably a true) talent gap between the NFL and the "next best" league which is widely considered to be the Canadian League. This talent gap leads us to the arrogance portion. As we see in other sports, the talent gap gets closed more and more every year but until there is a championship game played between the NFL and some other league and the representative of the other league wins...I think this perception will remain. But take heart....it's happened before and it can happen again. This same arrogance and perception existed when the NFL first merged with the AFL (You now see the NFC and the AFC in the NFL). The AFL was considered the inferior league until one of their teams (the NY Jets) finally beat an NFL team (the Colts) for a Super Bowl Championship.

And now the technicality portion. There are some minor (and some not so minor) differences between how the NFL plays and how other countries play American style football. As long as these differences exist, then technically the NFL is the only league to play that exact style...and therefore again by default, their Super Bowl winner can call themselves the "World Champions" of that particular style.

"AFL" Is way better then the "NFL" just like "V8 supercars" is far better stock car racing then "Nascar"!
