If the odds are 176,000,000 to 1 and the jackpot is now 640,000,000... What stops someone from just buying all possible 176,000,000 numbers? Seems like a decent return on investment....

I'm not sure if that's how they calculated the odds and am too lazy to do the math on my own, but it seems like that is an interesting idea...

I imagine that after you pay taxes and if you have to split it you are at a loss.

But there is also a chance of you having to share the jackpot.

650,000,000

and if you take into account taxes you end up with 60% of the total value assuming you don't take lump sum.

It seems the split is the only uncontrolled risk factor, because one or more people could just get lucky. If there is only a single winner, you'd still come out a bit ahead even after taxes.

But then you have to split the bank with x amount of people.

And that's a ton of upfront money

1) You would need to have $176MM to burn
2) Would hope that the lotto isnt spilt with anyone else.
3) Chances are if you have $176MM to burn like that then you dont need the lotto...lol.
4) If you have to borrow money then you have to factor interest expense if you can even get approved for something like that to spend on something like this.
5) Lastly, the final key is filling out by hand 176MM individual number combinations on those lotto slips. I dont even know how long that would take and how you would even keep track of not duplicating those combinations.

id be insanely happy with just a few million, lol. but if i get the jackpot, id go full on tony stark. crazy garage/machine shop/lab and all, lol.

that or id just build myself a nice workshop and go into hiding so i dont have to deal with all the beggars that wouldcome out of the woodwork.

My wife said yesterday, based on the $540M number, we would get $4M if her department had the winning ticket. She goes, "I don't know if that would last us forever." I said, "I can make $4M work, easily."

It sure would be fun to have that kind of problem.
