They have SF National Guard units here in the states. They do recieve all the same training, and many are ex active duty SF guys. However there is difference between the "badass" level of these guys just because they dont have the same amount of training and experience.

Its like anything really, if you do it one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer vs every freaking day, one is bound to be better trained and more qualified then the other.

Both respectable, but one is a little more "bad ***" to me...
I agree.

I've always enjoyed the show. While I like Survivorman, I think Man vs. Wild is much better. Grylls actually explains everything he is doing and teaches you how to do it, while Stroud just does it and says, "I'm hungry, I need to find some food."

Also, IMO, Stroud lands, explains the terrain and weather, and sleeps outside in an impromptu shelter. The second day he takes all day to build a proper shelter, talking about "saving his energy" and whatnot the whole while. The third day hes sitting around, and starts complaining about not having anything to eat, etc. etc. What does he do all day?

Don't get me wrong, I like the show and watch it every week, I just like Man vs. Wild better.

I mean, Grylls kills way more animals, which is always cool! And he shows him cleaning it, too.

Maybe we can attribute his apparent "flashyness" to the fact that he is British? I dunno...
This is why it makes sense that half of its BS - the average person that knows nothing about actual survival is seduced by all the 'action' that happens in the ''Man Vs. Wild'' show.

If you actually had to survive in the wild, it would be a lot closer to what Les Stroud portrays. A lot of failing at hunting, a lot of resting during the day when it's hot and predators are out.

NOT

'HEY LOOK, I MAGICALLY FOUND THIS TAME RABIT IN THE WILD AND HIT IT WITH A STICK FROM 40 FEET AWAY'

'HEY LOOK, CHECK OUT HOW THIS BIRD MAGICALLY FLEW RIGHT INTO MY SHIRT-TRAP!'

The fact that his show is half-crap has been old news, check out wikipedia for all the confirmed fake segments.

I think the british guy has a better personality for TV, but he should host a show that gives you tips on what to do if you are stranded in the wild.

Not try to pull a fast-one over the public and actually pretend to be surviving in the wild.

Les Stroud = the real deal, but might not be as entertaining to the average TV viewer

Bear Grylls = A fraud, but makes a good show for the masses who really just want to see the hunting aspects.

It's kind of like that game oregon trail, that you used to play in elementary school on the crappy mac computers. Most of us just wanted to hunt the whole time instead of doing the OTHER 'boring' 90% of the game, you know - that whole surviving aspect.
