Walk in freezers are very, very good at what they do. I doubt he had much time to do what he needed to be doing to break it. I'm even going to assume that he had a way to have the light on manually and be able to actually see what he was doing.

At the restaurant I used to work at I don't think we had much more than ice cream in the freezer. Ice cream and ice cream glasses on racks. All of the higher cycle food was in the walk-in fridge.

I guess I would try to take apart one of the racks and wedge a pole into the cooling fan and hope it just stops instead of shattering or catching on fire.

it's odd the freezer did not have an emergency door interior latch

the walls are a sheet metal skin over foam core
the corners latch together

hulk would smash

I guess we will see if they follow up and declare if there was any signs of escape attempts.

I'm surprised the cops let it go that easily. Up here (I know cause it happened) they call the keyholder or the GM to come open up so they can check it out.

If you read the bigger story there was more to it. Apparently there was a power outage and they put a bunch of dry ice in the freezers to preserve the food. They think he died from all the co2, not the temperature.

So he perhaps became weakened or fainted from CO2 poisoning and was unable to get out? Because freezers are required to have latches operable from the inside.

I've heard about that happening, quite often. My F-I-L is the manager for a CVS. He gets called every time a fly farts after hours.
