Reminds me of having "roman candle fights" as kids. What was the system that the army used in the 70s? I remember the infamous "Navy Gun" patent covering an electro-pneumatic paintball shooter used for training.

You can see the patent here. Its notable because it had a paintball-style hopper, and was electropneumatic with eyes, and semi/full auto, etc! It came up alot during the whole smart parts hullabaloo. You also had all sorts of squib & blood ball shooters in hollywood before paintball. Most know of the Sweeney gun, but you had all sorts before that. Another one that was used in the late 70s: (skip to 17:38 ) You look at some of that stuff, and its wierd that paintball was so primitive when we started playing it.
