No personal politics I'm from a military family myself I just didn't know the military offered referral bonuses and found it funny.

College credits are the easiest way to get advanced to E2 or E3 after boot camp. I went in as an E2 back in the early 90's that way.

I went in as an E3 (nuke program) I was an E-1 during boot camp but was making E-3 pay during boot camp and was sewing on the stripes as soon as our graduation ceremony was over. Like others have said what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. There are lots of oppurtunties to learn alot in the military as well as screw up. make sure you make the right choices and you will have some of the best years of your life. I got out over 15 years ago and am still in contact with quite a few guys from my schools and crew.

I wish you luck on the referrals but don't sweat it if you don't get any. There are more important things to worry about.

You have to volunteer for Submarine duty (best way to serve if you ask me) but there are carriers you could serve on. There were cruisers when I was in but they are gone now. The training you get in the program is very valuable and has served me well since I got out.

Unless you have sever claustrophobia the subs may not be a bad option. Year round sea pay (even when you are in port) sub pay (sounds better than hazardous duty pay) and if you are a nuke there is proficiency pay as well. As an e-4 I almost doubled my paycheck with thee added payments.

I've been onboard a Virginia class sub once upon a time. They're really not as bad as I had thought. My only problem was smacking my head. It seemed like I whacked the ol' noggin' every few feet and at every stairwell.

I'm 5'11" if that gives you an idea for scale.

I am 6'1" and served on a Permit class fast attack boat, not nearly as wide open and spacious as a Virginia class vacation home. Wear a hat as an early warning system after a few months you will be able to walk around there with your eyes closed and not hit anything.

Oh no doubt, I shouldn't have left out that I was a clumsy high school kid at the time. I'm sure it's just like being able to move around the house in the pitch blackness at night b/c you know the layout.

I'm not a fan of tight spaces but I think it would be awesome to be on a sub. I'd just start missing sunlight real quick.
