Just how fast is Bolt?

One Race, Every Medalist Ever - Interactive Graphic - NYTimes.com

A nice little pc by NYT. Shows you the distance Bolt would have beaten the first Olympic champion by and how he stacks up to the others.

they forgot to mention that bolt was slowing down on purpose to showboat toward the end of his beijing race, so we STILL don't know how fast he REALLY is!

At the end, why does his trivialize humans being faster by only 3 seconds? That's 25% faster. That's a lot.

I wonder what age range is optimal for running events? In gymnastics, at least for women's, it seems like 12-14 is best.

Good question. I think too it depends on the event within track. I want to say that the distance runners are on average older than the sprinters. By distance I mean 400m and up.

That is an interesting perspective. Back in the day people probably couldn't fathom how fast runners would become. In 100 years, Usain will be outrun by eight year olds.
