My big problems I have are when I don't have something nearby to reference it. If there is a definite blue color next to a purple I can tell the difference. If it's just purple by itself then I might assume it's blue.

Maybe that's why the camo doesn't work, we are used to critically comparing everything to it's surroundings.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner... Actually, I have the same issue... I can tell blue from purple, when they are together, but when they are apart, I have issues.

The green doesn't look right compared to the background, but may look fine in other surroundings.

On that colorblindness test page, I see the 25 in the upper left... and that's it.

I can see red. I can see green. Sometimes they get confused. Basically, Tymcneer has it right on how I see the world. My wife thinks it's hilarious. I find it a pain in the ***. I wanted to be a pilot so badly in my younger days. Sucks that I can't because of something completely out of my control.

I have had to explain colorblindness for a lot of years to a lot of people... Got pretty good at it over the years.

Best example I use is red and green Skittles are a perfect match, under flourescent lighting... They are different under sun light, but I couldn't tell you which is which, reliably :/

Not just that. Your eyes seek out edges and disruptions, so matched camo basically becomes a pattern like any other (or a solid color) and the sharp edges where it stops are what you pick out. Mixing camo is actually better because it disrupts the uniformity of the print and anything that blurs the edges of the shape (twigs, brush, etc) helps smooth over the transition of you-to-background.
