Color deficient to red and green here as well. I found out when I was a kid and my hopes of becomming a USAF pilot died at about age 6. I also have an easier time spotting camouflaged people. I also can't distinguish hues of color unless they are next to eachother. Green traffic lights look white and I often can't distinguish them from a street light at a distance until they turn yellow. I have also been trying to explain it for decades.

Someone" so you are color blind?"
Me "No, color deficient to red and green."
Someone "so what does red or green look like to you?"
Me 'I can't tell you that."
Someone "Why not?"
Me "I have no point of reference."
Someone "What do you mean?"
Me "Because I have never seen them the way you do. I've been this way all my life."
Someone "but why can't you tell me what color that looks like to you?"
Me *sigh*

yea, the doc described me as "partial red-green color blind". when i look at streetlights, i can clearly tell what is red, yellow, and green. i can tell the difference in hues if they have a decent difference between the two. im still trying to understand how to exactly describe my condition.

There are multiple types and different degrees of each. Probably the only way to get an accurate description is to ask an optomitrist or optimologist to give you one.

One of the more entertaining ways is find some red stage light gels. Cover the lights with them, have a non colorblind friend then look through another piece at a Coke can... Not exactly what I see, but it gets the point of screwy colors through to some people

In my case, Stop signs and grass are almost an exact match :/

As said farther up... It varies in intensity. My uncle is absolutely colorblind... Black, white and shades of gray.

I was diagnosed color blind as a kid, around 6. I am not, not even a little. Stupid Navy doctors got it completely wrong. The test they used back then, around 1970-71 was to sit you in a dark room with a pen light at the other end which changed colors. I could barely see the damn thing much less what color it was. That diagnosis followed me around until they came out with the polka dot tests. It was a lot of fun explaining to my teachers/school nurse, etc that I wasn't color blind. What color is this? What color is that? It's graple, dammit.
