Apparently some random kids came to a sailing club I went to occasionally and stole one of the boats. they even got out of the facility, but luckily they were stopped.. It's crazy what people will steal these days!

Growing up in the trucking industry, during the 70s and 80s trucks were stolen and immediately went to a chop shop to be stripped and parted out. Nowadays, like mentioned earlier, they are driven straight to a cargo container and go overseas.

However, I wonder what one does with a stolen 8 ton tracked armoured vehicle?

straight on a boat to Africa would be my guess. It takes some pretty big marbles to pull something like that off, though. I would think you would need a buyer lined up before hand as well.

As someone that used to install and service these systems, that was the first thing to pop in my mind. Did they not have a tracking system installed? That is just stupid.

I learned that the hard way a few years ago when a employee that was using my 04 F450 flatbed taken when the he ran inside a gas station to take a leak. Turns out the 's that took it backed it into another gas station, chained it to a ATM, then flipped the truck when the cops used their stop sticks. Though I was suprised they just didn't ditch it after the yanked the ATM.

After words had GPS installed on all the trucks, at first I didn't want to do it because of cost, but later after I used the benifets (not just the security of it) such as its live job tracking it was awesome.
