try Jenny's number at the grocery store

Those of us whose knees hurt more than most remember Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny", right?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkpGQUflBwU

Did you know that when you go shop somewhere that has a loyalty card, like your grocery chain or the sporting goods store, and they track that you have a card by your phone number, give them Jenny's number (along with your local area code) and there's a good chance that someone has set up a rewards account under that number? This way, you get the special discount that members get but don't have to give up any of your personal info. And if no one else has done it yet, do it yourself - use (area code) 867-5309 and some fake info, give other folks in your area the benefit.

Found out about this here, thought I'd share.

Yes, it works. I do not want Safeway to keep track of my items. I use it all the time

I head that song 'caused a big stink because it wasn't a generic "555" number. Incidentally, my first badge number was "555" so I thought it was a prank. It wasn't, hence the "Triple Nickels" as my avatar.

However, I will use this next time I'm at a store I don't have a card for.

I'm sure that people still call that phone number to this day.

As of 2007, all the prefix area codes with that number and the responses:

yeah - it helps to know the area code of wherever you are too, fwiw

I use that trick all the time - I had great fun showing it to a cousin of mine once

Most of the rewards stuff I don't care about. The grocery one I don't mind though. With our local store we actually get relevant coupons out of the printer and in the mail. I mean I'd much rather get a coupon for a different brand bacon than some random coupon based on someone else's purchases (probably end up with feminine hygiene products or something).
