The real difference between a 100+ win team and an 85-90+ win team is their pitching staffs 3-5 starters.

Baseball is the only sport where your team is different every game due to you having to start a different pitcher every night.

In a short series you eliminate the better teams advantage IE their 3-5 starters.

I see what you mean and that makes sense. Playoff baseball is also unique due to the small sample size. If you have a team that has "blunders" that cost them 1 game in every ten (IE Benoit giving up back to back home runs, Leyland inexplicably playing Rayburn, a fielding error, a sudden inability to hit) it shows up over the course of the season. The Tiger fans have watched this all year.

However, in a small sample size of a best of five (or seven) series you may never see the underlying weaknesses of a team.

I need to get to a bar tonight, I haven't watched any of the ball games and I dont own a TV.

The Braves game sucked but letting the ump's call is what makes the game...the game. I'm not a fan of this new 2-team wildcard. I was rooting for the Bravos and yankees rematch. Hoping the yanks would have been 3-0 vs the braves in the WS. So I could rub in it to friends and my wife.

Well it's Detroit waiting for the winner of the Giants and Cardinals.

Can the Giants get it done in comeback fashion yet again?
Or will the Cardinals dash the Giants faithful hopes as they seem to have been doing much of lately?... In dramatic fashion might I add.

On to non-playoff news,

John Farrel of the Toronto Blue Jays is now the manager of the Boston Red Sox.

Sox fans rejoice...

Jays fans... cry.

Screwed again, getting nothing in return for the best manager to cross over to this side of the border in nearly 20 years.

I'm a Tigers fan. I have had nearly as much fun with how the Yankees lost with the Tigers winning. Almost. Not really there yet but almost
