Most likely, someone local offered him more money... after the auction ended. A practice not allowed on ebay, but very common (even from users here who are very adept at "backdoor action").

Technically, ebay sales are strictly forbidden unless the seller specifically has the item "in hand". This makes all drop-ship sales illegal, but it goes largely unenforced.
The only times I've left negative feedback since 2003 have been because of that nonsense. If you sell me something that isn't even in stock you not only delay me in eventually finding and getting the item but it almost always ends up costing more either in actual price or rush shipping. I'll give negative for that practice every time without hesitation.

You can report it but they won't do anything. I highly doubt they even add nonpayment strikes anymore. I had it happen several times selling guns a few years ago, that's why I no longer sell on ebay. I'd just report it and hope that will at least keep you from having to pay the listing fee.

It's rather unfortunate that you can't leave negative feedback for nonpayment anymore. Ebay really is hostile towards sellers anymore.

Well that's just awesome. Thanks for the info.

I really wish I had more pleasant info to share, but my experience has been exactly what I posted. The nonpayers seem to be even more prevalent between this time and shortly after Christmas.

I can only guess they bid on several of the same item to cast a net for the best deal.

Please explain this. You have been buying from independent sellers on Ebay for a long time, this is the first time you get hosed, so you create a "I hate Ebay" thread?

I am sick of reading this crap! Those that would pelt Ebay over their 1 minor issue should just stay the hell away from Ebay, Craigslist, and other BST's. This type of thing happens occasionally when dealing with PEOPLE, it has nothing to do with the venue it took place at.

Meh, off my soapbox now.

I've bought and sold dozens of things on eBay over the years and never had a single bad experience.

Don't take offense but this is a bunch of speculation because you admittedly aren't active on ebay. I've been buying and selling Ebay for over 15 years and I can honestly say they continue to make improvements and IMHO do a good job of dealing with all the BS that goes on. While they have removed the negative feedback for buyers, they're actually a lot more strict than they used to be. Unpaid item strikes are not only there, they're automatic. Non paying bidders automatically receive strikes and after a pretty low number they will have their account revoked.

I have my account set up so it automatically opens the case, and refunds my closing fees. I could also have it relist my item but I choose to do that myself. You can also put in quite a few blocks including negative feedback buyers and those with unpaid item strikes.

I did have one incident very similar to Delta's where I sent the "buyer" a note 2 days after the auction and he replied he didn't want the item. I called customer service (Yes you can just call them) and they immediately refunded the closing fees, put a strike on the buyer account.

People seem to think Ebay is this faceless evil entity that provides no support. I've personally found the opposite. I've called into customer service several times and they've always been polite, helpful and quick to resolve my problems. In the end though, you are still dealing with individual buyers and sellers. Most people I've dealt with are fine (better than dealing with folks on forums honestly.... no offense to anyone, especially MCBers...) but there will always be some bad apples.

I do have to agree with maggot. Honestly I wish you ALL would just quit using Ebay so I can get all of the deals.

I will have to call them, no luck in finding a phone number to this point. Thanks for posting the info.

As far as the buyer goes, he has 0 feedback and has been a ebay member since March of 2012. I don't think them giving him strikes will do anything sadly.

Now, correct me if I am mistaken, don't you have to sign up with a credit card and once they win the auction, they have to purchase the item as long as it's correctly listed?

My experience with Ebay has actually been much better than with the BST here.

Unfortunately. you can't make someone pay for something.

Yes, strikes WILL have an affect especiallyon a low feedback account. If a 1000+ 100% feedback person doesn't pay for an item, they have a bit more communication from Ebay but I think it's only a couple strikes before the account is locked. If a 0 feedback bidder doesn't pay for 2 items, their account will go poof.

Also consider this: I have blocked bidders with 1 unpaid item strike in the last 6 months. You can block bidders with less than 5 (for example) feedback.
There are a lot of ways to prevent that scenario.

I have fewer problems with non-payers on Ebay than I do on MCB, Craigslist, PBN, etc.
