While they have removed the negative feedback for buyers, they're actually a lot more strict than they used to be. Unpaid item strikes are not only there, they're automatic. Non paying bidders automatically receive strikes and after a pretty low number they will have their account revoked.

I have my account set up so it automatically opens the case, and refunds my closing fees. I could also have it relist my item but I choose to do that myself. You can also put in quite a few blocks including negative feedback buyers and those with unpaid item strikes.

I did have one incident very similar to Delta's where I sent the "buyer" a note 2 days after the auction and he replied he didn't want the item. I called customer service (Yes you can just call them) and they immediately refunded the closing fees, put a strike on the buyer account.

People seem to think Ebay is this faceless evil entity that provides no support. I've personally found the opposite. I've called into customer service several times and they've always been polite, helpful and quick to resolve my problems. In the end though, you are still dealing with individual buyers and sellers. Most people I've dealt with are fine (better than dealing with folks on forums honestly.... no offense to anyone, especially MCBers...) but there will always be some bad apples.

I do have to agree with maggot. Honestly I wish you ALL would just quit using Ebay so I can get all of the deals.
Should I have said Ebay/Paypal?

I agree with what you say but there's no way I can verify a person had any negative action taken against them. All I know is what I experienced the relatively few times I tried to sell.

I am still very active on Ebay actually, but I choose not to sell there for the reasons stated above.

Sorry for your bad experiences. I've had the occasional issue but I guess I'm either lucky or smooth at ironing out issues. I still think it's smoother and have had less issues than dealing with folks on CL or forums.

There are some options that seem to help me a bit. I think the 3rd one is especially important as I believe it's any policy violation reports (buyer or seller). That's also why it's smart to report people.

From the accounts I've seen nuked and items that have magically disappeared, I do think ebay does a decent job of dealing with non-payers, scammers and whatnot.

-----------------------
Buyers with Unpaid Item strikes
Block bidders and buyers who have received 2 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 12 month(s)
This requirement can help you avoid bidders and buyers with a history of not paying for the items they have agreed to purchase.

-----------------------

Buyers in locations to which I don't ship
Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a location I don't ship to.
This requirement can help you avoid buyers who agree to purchase your items without realizing you don't ship to their location.

-----------------------

Buyers with policy violation reports
Block buyers who have 4 Policy violation report(s) within 6 month(s)
This requirement can help you block buyers who have been reported to have violated eBay policies.

-----------------------

Buyers with a negative feedback score
Block buyers who have a feedback score of -1 or lower.
This requirement can help you avoid buyers who have received more negative than positive feedback from other eBay members bidding on your item.

Only even close to bad experience I had that turned out great was buying a set of Kila ego detents, I bought a set in polished gold, payed, and got an email a few days later saying they didn't have the polished in stock, and asked if dust would be alright, and, here it comes, because of the mix-up, the detents were a gift to me.

I am sick of reading this crap! Those that would pelt Ebay over their 1 minor issue should just stay the hell away from Ebay, Craigslist, and other BST's. This type of thing happens occasionally when dealing with PEOPLE, it has nothing to do with the venue it took place at.

Meh, off my soapbox now.
First for a transaction where I was the buyer. As a seller I have had to file a damn claim to get the seller motivated to pay me. I have a had a seller sell me a 'new' textbook that was clearly used and I was paying a hefty price for used textbook that was advertised as new. Want more?

A lot of the problem is ppl are worried about retaliatory feedback. I sold a barrel kit there, 2 days to pay, and the dude ends up asking to wait over a week til next paycheck. I check his feedback and he had done it to about 4-5 others and never paid. THEY ALL GAVE HIM POS...ITIVE feedback. No wonder.

I told him yes, but I would definitely leave him a neg if he backed out and he paid, thank goodness.

What I really hate is the 14% fees!!! $45 on a $300 paintball gun.........REALLY? For this reason, I never sell anything over $100 there. I can sell local for same or less.

I have to wait 4 days to file a claim against this ******* now. Anyone else have this happen to them, and if so, what happened?
If he doesn't end up paying after you open a claim, he'll eventually get an unpaid buyer strike on his account (3 and he's out) and you'll get your fees back.

So pissed, the little ****er decided to respond back to the negative saying I demanded items that were not part of the auction. The little bastard offered me a freak tip when I told him I would escalate it to a PayPal claim if the item was received by the end of eBay's shipping window, the 16th. I am going to have fun with eBay on the tele tomorrow.

Yeah just call customer service. Hopefully you're using the ebay messaging. They can read all that and it leaves a conversation trail associated with the item (also a good reason to be nice in there....)

One more clarification...
You paid for an item. Seller did not send it. You used Ebay's messenger system to determine he is a fraud. You used Paypal to file a claim and get your money back. You used Ebay's feedback system to leave a poor rating so that it doesn't happen to somebody else.

See where I am going with this? What the **** did Ebay do wrong? They did everything right!

You got to shop at the largest global marketplace FOR FREE. YOU took a risk and bought from a seller with low feedback. Ebay's system and policies prevented a guy, who was trying his damndest to rip you off, from doing so. You are not out anything! You didn't lose a damn penny! What the hell are you complaining about?

P.S., if you haven't noticed, I think Ebay is the greatest thing since sliced bread

First the seller did not have low feedback, he has over 400 feedback with 3 negs that all occurred last year. Granted eBay did nothing wrong except to harbor a seller that is still selling items that he does not have in his possession. I was sour for the fact that I had my time wasted waiting on an item that was never going to appear. I could have used that time to procure the item here or elsewhere instead of having my money tied up. ebay works well, but like anything it only takes a select few instances to turn people away.
