As it is, there is still other American knockoffs like the Ms Freshlys "Golden Cakes". And the Dolly Madison Zingers were similar.

I thought Saputo owned the Hostess brand for distribution up here? Would that not mean that the recipe was the same? Same exact taste, potentially different packaging? I'll admit I do not know what Twinkies look/taste like up here--I never had the desire to go out and buy them.

It might be like Dr Pepper. Its neither owned by Coke or Pepsi, but licensed based on region. As such, you can get regional various based on water source, variations on baking techniques, sources of raw materials (ie beet, sugar, cane sugar, corn syrups, vanilla, vanillan, etc).

But does it really matter? no

I just hope whoever buys the rights to the IP brings the raspberry coconut zingers back. That's literally the only thing I'll buy out of a vending machine when I'm forced to go that route.
