Anybody have their swimming pool filled-in?

long story short, i hate my swimming pool with a passion. i've decided to have it filled-in/demolished. has anyone had this done, and if so, can you share your thoughts on the subject? cost, time to complete, things to look for/beware of, permits, etc.?

and for reference, this soul/money-sucking behemoth is in-ground, around 14k gallons, curvy shape, with a concrete deck(?) around it.

Just drain it and rent it to the local skaters. Just have it filled in with dirt and then plant grass in it. Or just leave it empty, that way your home still has value if you sell it.

Later,

No, I got it... frame and insulate it in with a roof, put a garden and a gazebo/clubhouse on that, and have a hatch from there to the room and use it for paintball storage

(or you could grow plants down there.... hydroponic tomatoes perhaps)

+1

Or, you know how your house never has enough storage? Well, you now have ~14,000 gallons worth of storage space

I had a buddy buy a house that had a pool(not sure how big). He got a bobcat from a construction contractor he knew and pushed it in on itself and filled the rest with dirt. Didn't seem to hard, took him 2 or 3 days just bc he was lazy.

Building a structure like a shed or guest house above it and use it like a cellar is a cool idea. If the concrete around the pool is squared off and not curved with the pool, most might be unsuspecting of what's below.

Of course, that would't be the cheapest route of getting rid of the pool by any means.

It's a shame you want to get rid of it. You could fill it with keystone light and be as smooth as this guy.
