First Car OR First Lathe?

So im starting my second semester in highscool soon as a sophemore and was either thinking of saving up and getting a lathe, or saving up and getting my first car. I want the freedom of owning my own car which i need. But i also want a lathe so i can do some more paintball projects. I really like the look of this triumph tr7 in my near by craigslist, He is asking 1500 and i think it would be a good project. My dad and i have already rebuilt a 1978 CJ7 Jeep so it would match the jeeps year. What do you guys think?

Get the lathe, and then do some projects for people which will earn you money for a car.

Use the lathe to gain valuable machining experience. Don't buy the triumph as your first car. It may be fun to tinker with in the beginning. But it will crap out on you when you need it most. The lathe could potentially pay for a cheap car in time.

Get a car.

You will use a car way more than a lathe. I wouldn't get a Triumph, but I'd still say get a car.

I had the same question my sophemore year of highschool... car or milling machine? I went with the milling machine, no regrets.

hmm. buy a cheap honda for car. buy a lathe if you seek to learn machining and get into the industry, otherwise you are better off just paying that money to a real machinist to do your work for you (and do it well). if you really need to get a lathe for hobby work just wait for a really killer deal to come by.
