tracert IPAddress or tracert HostName

does your buddy live in the same city? with bell? either way you can have him do the same thing and see where they are different/see what takes you longer.

To run the command, you need to open a command prompt, or terminal. Guessing you're on Windows, in which case you're looking for cmd on any of the latest versions. Forget if it is labelled something else for stuff older than vista (99% sure is was "command prompt" in win95, but I really hope you're not still on that), and I'm not sure what it is for windows 8.

if you're on Vista or 7 it's CMD otherwise it's open up a run dialog and type command and hit enter. then type tracert and the ip of the gaming server you use and it will show you the path it takes and the latency to each node on the path. I'd be betting the issue is somewhere within their network though with that said I had a similar issue where I paid for an 8Mbps connection and was pulling maybe 3 and it turned out my old router was starting to die so it couldn't handle the bandwidth properly. Once I bought a new fancy schmancy Dlink router everything was fine.

For xbox, everything is under <1 ms.

Open a command prompt again

Do an ipconfig /all and give me the results under DNS

Also go to speedtest.net and run a speed test

Lastly, run the tracert again to a server you use for gaming and send or post the results.

Redoing.

So on the side not, why I'm not doing your test exactly. Me and my friend are running certain test seeing if my firewall isn't blocking it. Now we just did a few test and my fire wall isn't blocking anything especially when we make specific ports/program to allow it through,
