Looks like the army lifted the ban on ritelin use

Well as a few of you know I tried a few years back to enlist in the army and I was PDQ'd(permanently disqualified) at MEPS because I had taken ritelin in elementary school. It was Rx andI llater the doctor tool me off of the Rx stating I didn't need it. MEPS didn't care and PDQ'd me anyways. Well I heard recently they changed their ruling on that and so called my recruiter from before. He took a day to check on it and the next day told me everything may be good. So it looks like I'm going to be able to enlist after all. I'm going to do army national guard this way I can continue the process for the state police at about the same time. I'llgo in as an MP just ffor the relative experience. I'm so freaking excited. I'm 26 though so I guess I'llbe the old fart at basic. Oh well yayyyyyyyy

Good luck. Don't worry about being old at 26. I guarantee you will not be the oldest one there though.

Do you know where you will be going to basic at? I assume you will be going to Ft. Leonard Wood for your AIT-MP training.

Congrats. Really, nothing the Army does comes as a surprise. I always thought that disqualification was ignorant, especially when it was childhood use of medications. Especially considering how hard of a time they have recruiting when 75% of otherwise qualified candidates can't serve because they're too fat/weak.

I went in at 24 and had four or five guys older than me there. Ft. Leonard wood is a little over an hour away from me. Good luck on getting in!

Yeah, 26 at Basic isn't too bad, I was 27 when I went, and definitely not the oldest person in my platoon, much less the whole company. Basic and AIT are easy, just remember that the Drill Sergeants are that way to EVERYBODY, even each other, so don't take it personally. And when you get back and continue your school remember two things - Federal Tuition Assistance and GI Bill. You can use both at the same time.
